Hybridae concerts is a platform to experience and hear musicians play with piano rolls. It explores the art of humans making music alongside a player piano versus alongside a pianist. It reveals the timelessness of music through connecting musicians a hundred years apart.

The first Hybridae concert features world-renowned pianolist Rex Lawson in playing an all Rachmaninoff recital to celebrate the Sesquicentennial since Rachmaninoff’s birth, and the 50th year since Lawson’s first pianola concert at the Purcell Room in 1973. The performance will include ‘Isle of the Dead’, and ‘Suite for Two Pianos Op. 17’ with pianist Joyce Tang.

Schedule of the concert:

4 – 4.40 pm: First half

4.40 – 5pm: interval

5 – 5.30 pm: Second half

Hybridae concerts are held at the Musical Museum, a museum of automated instruments. It is scheduled every two months, An associated concert series is ‘Portraits’ , reproducing piano concerts.
