We take you back to 1920 for the silent feature film ’Mark of Zorro’ starring Douglas Fairbanks in the film that defined the ’swashbuckling adventure’. The film was based on the 1919 novel, ’The Curse of Capistrano’ and tells the story of Don Diego Vega – the son of a wealthy ranchero – in the old Spanish/California of the early 19th century. He assumes the caped and sword brandishing Zorro who scars evildoers with his ‘Z’ mark. He sets out to overthrow the villainous Governor Alvarado and his henchmen and wants to win the hand of Lolita Pulido. Will he succeed? Come along and find out… Donald MacKenzie will be performing the improvised score on the Museum’s mighty Wurlitzer.
