Unusual for the time, Hogarth made many of his own prints. Learn more
about printing and the processes that went into making the prints you
see on display in the House. Each workshop will cover Hogarth as a
printmaker, the drypoint technique and a hands-on opportunity to make
print your own uniquely designed plate.
Intaglio, meaning ‘to incise,’ encompasses printing
techniques such as engravings and etchings, which are how Hogarth made
his prints, as well as the more modern technique of drypoint. Intaglio
printing techniques are the opposite of relief printing, such as lino or
woodcuts, and require considerably more pressure to print. Participants
will create their own unique design using specialist tools, watch it
run through our intaglio press and at the end take home their completed
masterpiece.
Open to beginners! No previous printmaking experience needed.
