Easy pancake recipe for Shrove Tuesday

It’s Pancake Day (aka Shrove Tuesday) when many across the nation will be getting their whisks and pans ready for this annual celebration. If you’re looking for an easy recipe to make your own, check out the instructions below.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup flour (any kind!)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk (any kind!)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (or oil)
  • Pinch of salt

Optional yummy add-ins:

  • 1 tablespoon sugar (for sweet pancakes)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fruit (blueberries, bananas, etc.)
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips

How to make it:

  1. Grab a big bowl and mix together the flour and salt. Make a little well in the middle.
  2. Crack the eggs in the well and whisk them with a fork. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking until smooth. No lumps allowed!
  3. Add the melted butter (or oil) and whisk again.
  4. If you want sweet pancakes, sprinkle in the sugar and mix well. Add any other yummy bits you like, like fruit or chocolate chips.
  5. Heat up a frying pan over medium heat. Add a little butter or oil to coat the pan.
  6. Pour a scoop of batter into the pan. Swirl the pan around a bit to make a nice round pancake.
  7. Let the pancake cook for about 1-2 minutes, until bubbles appear on top and the bottom starts to brown.
  8. Flip it over carefully with a spatula and cook for another minute or so until golden brown.
  9. Repeat steps 6-8 until all the batter is gone. Yum!

Tips:

  • If the batter seems too thick, add a little more milk. If it’s too thin, add a sprinkle more flour.
  • Use a small pan for thicker pancakes, a bigger pan for thinner ones.
  • Get creative with toppings! Try syrup, honey, fruit, whipped cream, nuts, or even savory toppings like cheese and herbs.
