UK and International Events in Hounslow in 2022

As part of our Summer of Culture programme, the borough played its part in two other major national and international events.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Hounslow joined in the national events taking place in June to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Community groups bid for grants of up to £1,000 to host local events and all fees were waived for those wanting to close roads to host street parties.

The Council organised an event on the evening of 2nd June to coincide with the national beacon lighting. Other events took place throughout the year to commemorate the Platinum Jubilee, including tree planting across the borough. Residents, schools, community groups and businesses were also encouraged to get involved by planting trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy.

UEFA Women’s EURO 2022

Hounslow welcomed football fans to its Brentford Community Stadium for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. The tournament was a fantastic opportunity to encourage women and girls to engage in a healthy lifestyle through football. Hounslow’s schools and communities were offered support to set up new football-based sessions for women and girls across the borough. The UEFA Women’s Legacy Fund supported the setup of local sessions in Hounslow like “Soccercise” and women’s football coaching sessions.

Women’s Euros Culture Programme

In partnership with the Football Association and other host boroughs for the Women’s Euros we worked with current and past female football players, young people and community groups to collect an archive of memories about women’s involvement in football. The archive culminated in an outdoor and indoor exhibition at Gunnersbury Museum and Park with elements of the exhibition touring Hounslow libraries later in the year. This programme was led by Gunnersbury Museum and Park on behalf of Hounslow Council and supported by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
